a TASTE of Lynwood-on Bainbridge Island

Saturday, September 15th, 2012 11am-8pm In the heart of Bainbridge Island at the intersection of Point White Drive NE and Pleasant Beach Drive NE (Lynwood Center). See: tasteoflynwood.org You can get there by ferry from Seattle, walk on and hop the shuttle to "Lynwood Center" or take the Edmonds-Kingston ferry and drive over a bridge on to Bainbridge Island. Basket Reggie: Artist Story: Basket Works N.W. by Reggie Since 1988 Regina (Reggie) Kastler has always enjoyed doing things with her hands, such as drawing, woodworking, sewing, weaving and making stained glass windows. In school she was always in art and later in fashion design. Her father was a carpenter and woodworker as was her grandfather, who become a well known builder of weaving looms & spinning wheels. Her mother is an artist, so with all this background it is no wonder that color and design has come easy to her. Basketry brings together all of her art talent in combining the love of weaving with natural fibers, blending colors and creating shapes. Clients are encouraged to discuss ideas and colors with her, thereby she can create custom baskets to fit their individual needs and artistic expressions. She has even been commissioned to design and weave an Indian ceremonial basket, What an honor! "Teaching basket weaving to adults and children is a very joyful and rewarding experience as well as educational for me," says Reggie. 1995 was her first year of teaching in public and private schools and giving group demonstrations. Her baskets are sold mostly by herself, she likes it that way, because she believes customers would like to meet her and have the chance and experience of watching her weave and ask all those important questions. Some of her baskets have found their way to foreign lands such as Sweden, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Australia, England and Norway, that she knows of, along with many places across the U.S.A.
